Description

Lyrical dance is a graceful and expressive style that blends elements of ballet, jazz, and modern dance. This class focuses on connecting movement to music and emotion, encouraging dancers to tell a story through their choreography. Dancers will explore dynamics such as shape, space, time, and energy while developing strong technical skills and emotional expression.

Through guided improvisation, technique work, and choreography, students will build their movement vocabulary and refine their ability to convey emotion through dance. Lyrical dance often uses music with lyrics to inspire storytelling, making it a powerful outlet for creative expression. This style can frequently be seen on stages, in dance competitions, and on shows like So You Think You Can Dance & World of Dance.

These classes are open to dancers ages 5.5 through adult and is appropriate for both beginner and experienced students looking to deepen their artistry and connection to movement.

General Info

A note about hair and jewelry: all dancers, regardless of gender, are expected to have and keep hair out of the face. It is a distraction and often a hazard when dangling loose or insecurely pulled back. Bangs or pieces of hair hanging down into the face or covering eyes are not acceptable. Necklaces, bracelets, toe rings, and any earrings (aside from studs) are very dangerous in class to the dancer wearing them and the dancers around them. They could get caught and yanked off inadvertently, fall off and be stepped on, and/or be lost/broken.
